Wedding Photography: 15 Must-Ask Questions and Answers

In this post, I'm answering most frequently asked questions about my wedding photography packages and photo delivery. Every bride and groom should be asking these questions their wedding photographer to learn if it's the right person for their wedding day or not.
1. What is your photography style?
I'm a natural light photographer simply because I love the way the natural light looks when used correctly. I always aim for luminous, natural, relaxed and candid photographs. I won't try to stage any shots and pose you for photos, but I will slightly direct you instead. I always look to document genuine emotions and natural in-between moments throughout the day. The only exception is the family formal portraits.
My photo editing
When I was developing my signature editing style, I was inspired by film photography for its unique look, colours and contrast. I aim to bring the best of both digital technology and the timeless film look together in my photographs. My image manipulation is very consistent, so you can better visualise how you and your day could look like through my lenses. But before all of this, I make sure that all photographs are technically correct and adequately colour balanced. Healthy skin tones are important to make sure that you will always look your best in my pictures.
2. What parts of the wedding day do you capture?
I capture all parts of the wedding day from the start (the bride getting ready) to finish (several songs after the first dance). My most favourite parts of the day are: the bride getting ready along with all her bridal details, the ceremony because of all the genuine emotions, wedding reception and the wedding couple portraits.
I would say that 80% of the wedding day I capture candid photos and 20% consist of directed couple portraits and group photographs (also called family formals).
3. Can we request a list of specific shots we would like?
Yes, you can send me some photos which will help me with understanding which photos are important to you. Pinterest is a great way how to find, save and share the photos with me. You can find me on Pinterest under @VeronikaJ_Photography and send me photos which inspire you. Please know that the final images will be mostly dependant on the events on your wedding day and my personal style. Therefore, I will inspire by the pictures you send me, but I won't try to copy or replicate them.
4. Do you have backup equipment in case of gear failure?
Yes. I understand that it is a huge responsibility to photograph someone's wedding, and there is no way how to return the time back. That's why I always have backups of backups. Therefore, I have two slots for memory cards in my camera. This allows me to make two copies of every single photo straight away on two different memory cards. In case my camera breaks or fails, I have another backup camera body and a whole bunch of camera lenses too. I'm also a part of a photographers community, so if anything happened and I physically couldn't attend the wedding, I can get in touch with another photographer to cover me.
5. How long will it take to edit the photos?
I state in my contract that the photo delivery takes between 1-2 months. However, I usually tend to deliver my photos sooner (less than 1 month) because my clients are my priority and they deserve to receive their photos fast.
6. How are the final images delivered to us?
I deliver two sets of images. These sets contain the exact same photographs, but they are optimised for a different purpose:
Private Online Gallery
You will receive your photographs through a beautiful private online gallery. The gallery allows you to view the photos, share them on social media and download them. You can always access this gallery through my website in the Client Zone section and easily share it with your friends and family when you send them the link and password.
High-resolution files ready for print
These photos are exported in full resolution and are suitable for print. Thus, they are large in size and they load very slowly when used online.
7. Will we receive ALL photos?
No, you won't. I'm happy to deliver all photos which pass the quality control (this means that the photographs are technically correct) without any repetitive images. I tend to capture a large number of shots to get the exact perfect moment, and sometimes I come home with several thousands of images and almost 200 GB data.
These photos are mostly repetitions. However, this photo selection is a huge part of my process and for this reason, I select only the best photos for you. Only this way, I can create a unique and visually interesting collection of photos which tell your beautiful wedding day story.
8. How many photos should we expect to receive?
I usually deliver between 500 to 650 photographs from a typical full wedding day. Please know that these numbers are only estimates and the number of final photos depends on the wedding. For example, if there is travel involved between places (wedding ceremony and wedding reception, etc.), it will affect the number of photographs I'm able to capture.
9. Will all delivered photos be edited and is that done before I see them?
Yes and yes. All photos which I deliver to my clients are edited with my signature style, including skin retouch and colour balancing. In my opinion, editing is what makes the difference between a good photo and a great photo. You will receive only the final photos after I finalise them.
10. Can we have also the unedited photos?
No. If you are interested, I can send you a preview of some before and after images, but these photos are not for public use. The reason is that the unedited images are technically incorrect and secondly, they are photographed as RAW files. Unless you have Photoshop (or other software for raw file image manipulation), you most likely wouldn't be able to even view the photos on your computer. RAW images are exactly what it sounds like. They are raw information ready to be edited in professional post-production software. These photos are far from being beautiful. The reason why photographers use RAW files is that it gives them the most control over image manipulation.
11. Do you have a written contract?
Yes, I do have a written contract. If you are interested in reviewing it, please get in touch, and I will be happy to send you a draft.
13. How much is the deposit and when is the remaining balance due?
As per the contract, I require 40% of your selected photography package as a deposit to secure your wedding date. The remaining balance is due 2 weeks before the wedding day.
I will reserve the time and will not make other reservations for that time and date. For this reason, the reservation deposit is non-refundable, even if the wedding is cancelled for any reason. However, the deposit can be transferred to a different date if the wedding is postponed.
14. Do you charge any additional/hidden fees?
No, I don't charge any additional or hidden fees except for travel cost which is dependable on the wedding location and distance I have to travel. If it's not possible for me to travel to the wedding and back on the same day due to a long distance, I may add accommodation cost too. However, all charges will be always discussed upfront.
13. Will our photos have a watermark?
No. I don't watermark my clients' images. For this reason, photo credit on posts is always highly appreciated.
15. What are the restrictions for sharing photos? Do you own the copyrights to the photos?
Veronika J. Fine Art Photography owns the complete copyright to all images, and all photographs are protected by Copyright Law. I transfer a part of the copyrights to my clients for their personal use. In practice, this means that you can do almost anything with the images (share and print), but you can't use them for any commercial purposes and sell the photos for profit.
Bonus Question: Do you have a covid rescheduling policy?
Yes, absolutely! You can reschedule your date for no fees. I believe that it's unfair to charge my clients extra for something that is out of their control. With me, you can book with the peace of mind. You just need to check my availability before rescheduling your date.
